With the season wrapped up and the draft looming, there's really only one last question on every Sixers fans mind: Which podcast had the best theme song? So we at TheHomieDario.com (really just me) have decided to end the debate once and for all so that you no longer have to think for yourselves.
We've compiled the top five Sixers centric podcasts and ranked their theme songs. Note: This has nothing to do with the actual content of the podcast or which one we think is the best (it's the Ricky btw's) but this is strictly about the theme song and theme song alone. Your podcast could be 45 minutes of Franklin Farts on loop but if that theme song is banging? Then you might find yourself winning this:

These rankings are based on a few criteria: Creativity of song. Sixers Relevance. And last but certainly not least, Does this song bang in the Prius on my way to Whole Foods?
So let's get started...
#5. Tuesdays with Moultrie
Theme Song: It's Moultrie Love
A wonderful podcast based on everyone's favorite Doug Collins draft day trade up, the guys at Tuesdays with Moultrie sit at number five on this years podcast theme song power rankings. It took a few episodes before these guys got their theme song down pat. Their ranking is mostly due to the lack of consistency early on and also their ability to appeal to someone in their thirties who mostly stays at home with his girlfriend and watches Netflix (I had never heard like three of those songs and since I live in a loft, I couldn't tell them to get off my non-existent lawn). While I love Pharell and Snoop together, I just don't see the connection to the Sixers besides the fact that Embiid's Tweet game is quite beautiful? There might have been a Rhianna joke as song? I'm really not sure and truth be told, it might be deeper than I know. But they did score major points with Drake's Draft Day, which was the theme song to their episode about Draft Day. That I liked a lot
It took them into late in the year before unveiling their new theme song, It's Moultrie Love. While the song is great and perfectly appropriate, it does seems like it was recorded in a dorm room at a state school somewhere in the middle of Pennsylvania. Or maybe they actually got Moultrie to Skype a performance all the way from China? Either way, it's a great step in the right direction and based on creativity alone, I could see this podcast moving its way up in The Definitive Sixers Podcast Theme Song Power Rankings 2015-2016 Edition.
#4. State of Independence
Theme Song: G. Love - I-76
You know that one friend that you love but just stays over way too late? Well that's the State of Independence's theme song in a nutshell. An A+ for song choice, a C- for execution.
This is a home run of a theme song. For those not born in the 90's, G. Love was the golden child of hippies who also loved hip hop (Not rap, hip hop. Like Mos Def and The Roots See? I'm progressive. Have you met my black friend?). See, back in the day we had these things called jam bands. They were your local pot heads who would just gather around in a basement and jam all night long as a group of college kids finished the keg and tried to call someone selling an 8th of dirty schwag (Officially claiming 8th of Dirty Schwag as my new improv troupe name). During this time, G. Love was our local hero. A white Philly guy with soul that sorta rapped? Yeah, that's gonna be our dude.
So this song is perfect. It's nostalgic. It's as topical as you can get. "Charles Barkley dissed Larry Bird?" I mean, what other song clearly and precisely explains how getting good grades resulted in seeing Jerry Stackhouse and Iverson on the court? Also a great shout out to Bobby Jones and Andrew Toney? And they stole the rhythm from this classic song? Amazing.
But then comes the podcast's execution of the song. While I love that song, there is absolutely no reason to play upwards of an entire minute of it. It's a theme song, not a post in Philly Mag's Where are They Now? I hate to do it, but because of it's length, it definitely fell in the Power Rankings. And again, just to be clear, these Power Ranking are #Definitive.
#3. Sixers Beat
Theme Song: Nas - It Ain't Hard to Tell
Ok. I'll be honest. There is actually zero Sixers relevance to this song. And my man Black Thought once almost had to slap Nas for talking reckless. But that's all fine.
What is important is how amazing this song is. It's a classic song from a classic album. I get hyped every time I hear it on the podcast. The first single released after Illmatic dropped, this Large Professor instrumental deserves all the credit and accolades it deserves. If Nas had only dropped one Sharone Wright reference, this would easily be the #1 on the Definitive list. Alas, it remains at #3. Great song. Just no 7 or 6 in it.
And also of note, a great intro voice and obviously a professional recording. A nice touch.
#2. The Rights to Ricky Sanchez
Theme Song: Dana Barros - Check It
A near perfect choice for a Sixers podcast and we here at TheHomieDario.com (again, just one dude named Jon) had a hard time not picking it #1. For those who don't know, in the mid 90's there was an album called B-Ball's Best Kept Secret comprised of NBA players on the mic. The first song off that album was from none other than our own Dana Barros. The rest of the album sucks.
The song is good! Yeah it's a little dated now, but that beat still knocks. And I get extra hyped every time that podcast starts and those drums come in. Also, with years of radio experience, Spike knows exactly how to drop into the song and start the podcast with energy. I'm not sure if it's the beat that gets him hyped or not, but the intro song just works perfectly.
And then there's the theme song for the Jigsaw portion of the podcast. I mean, can you even imagine a better theme song for a section that usually involves the smell of Henry Sims face after being licked? And if you somehow delete that song? Just create an even better one. Just outstanding work overall. But still a little short when it comes to our #1 Definitive Sixers Podcast Theme Song Power Rankings for 2014-2015...
#1. Sixers 365
Theme Song: Big Punisher feat. Norega - You Came Up
It saddens me to say that people have forgotten about Big Pun. The first Latino solo rapper to go platinum, Big Pun is that dude. Sampling Ramon Morris' Don't Ask Me and featuring Norega on the hook, this song is the Started From the Bottom of the mid 90's. So how appropriate is it as a theme for the Sixers Rebuild? "You came up, what what, making it happen. From starting Chris Johnson to ending with Furkan Ald..." I think you get it.
So yes, the song in it's raw form doesn't have any Sixers connection but fortunately for us, they didn't just use the instrumental for their podcast. No, they take it up the professional notch and add none other than the 2014 Pennsylvania Sportscast Of The Year, Tom McGinnis to the intro. Now that's the touch of special that earns you the #1 spot (#Definitive).
If there was one legitimate gripe with this song holding the #1 spot over The Ricky, it was the fact that they chose a Nerlens Noel layup call at first. Yeah it was during Summer League and there wasn't much to work with, but for many Sixers fans the vision of Nerlens not being able to catch the ball for a lob was a scary thought. Oh, and also MCW got traded, what's up with that?
Well after the trade they decided to update the theme song and man was it special. Not only did they move it over to a Nerlens emphatic slam dunk, but it's safe to say they thought of/trolled us all by adding none other than a JaKarr Sampson drive to the lane! I mean, if there's ever a more perfectly appropriate highlight call to replace MCW, it's a JaKarr Sampson drive to the lane. It's so perfect that it became #Definitive.
